How Much Does Assisted Living Cost?

One of the most important questions people have about senior housing in LA County is how much this type of living costs. The price for assisted living varies by location, so there are no set fees for long term care services. That said, it’s helpful to know how senior living communities structure their fees so that you can determine what you’re getting for the price.

Varenita of Westlake is proud to be a luxury retirement community in southern California that offers comprehensive services and amenities for one low price. We are honest and transparent about our fees which start at $5,500 a month. Let’s learn more about the average costs for assisted living and how our retirement communities in Westlake Village compare.

Average Costs of Assisted Living in America

In the United States, the average cost for assisted living is $4,500 per month. Keep in mind that this is the national average and some states and cities differ dramatically. For example, in Massachusetts, the average cost for assisted living is $6,500 per month, whereas in Alabama, it’s $3,503. As with other services, assisted living tends to cost less in areas with a low cost of living and more in areas with a high cost of living.

However, even within towns and communities, there can be a big difference in price. A luxury senior living community with a spa and fitness center will cost more than one with basic amenities. This is why it’s important to speak with each independent facility instead of assuming they’re all the same.

How Does Assisted Living Compare to Other Types of Senior Care?

Surprisingly, assisted living is one of the most economical types of senior care. In-home and home health care may appear less expensive because they charge by the hour, but this adds up quickly. Generally speaking, in-home and home health care is best when you only require a few hours of assistance each week. Used consistently, this type of care can reach over $7,000 a month.

Nursing homes are slightly more expensive, costing between $7,756 for a shared room and $8,821 for a private room. Adult day care is another option – and the most affordable – but the quality of care is much lower.
