What Is Memory Care?
When individuals experience memory loss from dementia or Alzheimer’s, they require more specialized care in a safe and secure environment. This is what you will find in a memory care community.
We help memory care residents with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, or eating, in addition to providing higher levels of medical care, usually by a registered nurse.
We also offer special cognitive programming and occupational therapy to help residents maintain their physical and mental health. Because inactivity can worsen cognitive decline, we make sure all memory care residents have access to social activities that promote feelings of connectedness and provide cognitive stimulation.
Memory care apartments are specially designed to prevent wandering or accidents that can lead to injury or agitation. Within this setting, we emphasize routine to create a sense of familiarity and calm.
How Is Memory Care Different From Assisted Living?
Memory care is the highest level of care your loved one can receive at Varenita™. It can include aspects of assisted living, like help with bathing, dressing, and eating. And, like assisted living residents, memory care residents have access to all of our on-site dining, amenities, and services.
However, memory care is different in that it includes more intensive medical support, like therapeutic activities to improve quality of life. Memory care may also include 24/7 medical support from a full-time registered nurse. Most residents who receive memory care services have been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
Varenita™ Memory Care FAQs
Who qualifies for memory care?
Memory care is for those in mid- to late-stage dementia or Alzheimer’s who need continual support to remain healthy and safe. However, no specialized requirements are necessary. With care options at Varenita™, we can customize your loved one’s care based on their needs.
What services are offered with memory care?
Memory care includes personal care services as you would find with assisted living, but it also offers 24-hour supervised care in a secure environment. That includes medical services from a registered nurse, frequent check-ins from staff, and built-in tech-forward safety features in the community.
