Memory Care

Compassionate & Dignified Memory Care at Varenita™

When someone you love is diagnosed with dementia, the future can feel clouded with uncertainty. The needs of a person with dementia are nuanced, which is why our memory care community is rooted in the latest advances in the science of aging.

By relying on the best practices in senior care, our memory care community has the necessary staff, facilities, and programming needed to help your loved one live with purpose and dignity.

What Is Memory Care?

When individuals experience memory loss from dementia or Alzheimer’s, they require more specialized care in a safe and secure environment. This is what you will find in a memory care community.

We help memory care residents with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, or eating, in addition to providing higher levels of medical care, usually by a registered nurse.

We also offer special cognitive programming and occupational therapy to help residents maintain their physical and mental health. Because inactivity can worsen cognitive decline, we make sure all memory care residents have access to social activities that promote feelings of connectedness and provide cognitive stimulation.

Memory care apartments are specially designed to prevent wandering or accidents that can lead to injury or agitation. Within this setting, we emphasize routine to create a sense of familiarity and calm.

How Is Memory Care Different From Assisted Living?

Memory care is the highest level of care your loved one can receive at Varenita™. It can include aspects of assisted living, like help with bathing, dressing, and eating. And, like assisted living residents, memory care residents have access to all of our on-site dining, amenities, and services.

However, memory care is different in that it includes more intensive medical support, like therapeutic activities to improve quality of life. Memory care may also include 24/7 medical support from a full-time registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse. Most residents who receive memory care services have been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

What to Look for When Searching for a Memory Care Community

You want to feel confident that you have chosen a memory care community that will provide your loved one with unparalleled memory care.

To help you make an informed decision, here are a few of tips you can use during your search:

  • Visit multiple communities in-person to truly get a sense of the community, staff, dining facilities, and apartments.
  • Ask about the ratio of residents to staff; a low ratio means more one-on-one care for your family member.
  • Meet some of the memory care staff; these are the individuals that will be interacting regularly with your loved one.
  • Ask if there are any plans in place to ease the transition from home to memory care and what they do for residents who don’t adapt easily to their new environment.

You aren’t alone in your search for the right memory care community. Our knowledgeable and friendly staff can answer your questions and help you get clarity and peace of mind as you consider your family’s options.
